How to Choose a File Transfer Service

The user-friendly services listed here allow you to transfer, download and store data. You can also upload and share files with friends, family and colleagues. Upload, download and share home videos, pictures and other recreational files as well as PowerPoint presentations, financial results, audio recordings and other productivity files. Most of these service also offer free trials.

When you have files that are much too large to simply send as an e-mail attachment, then it may be necessary to use a file transfer service. There are so many file transfer services that are currently available that it may be hard to keep up, however, there are certain factors that you can look at in order to help you determine which file transfer service may be the right one for you to use.

Here are some things to consider when looking at the various file transfer services that are available today:

• Size of Transfers Allowed: Many times, a file transfer service will put a limit on how large of a file can be transferred. While anything over 1GB is usually considered a ‘large file,’ some file transfer services can handle files larger than others, and many even offer ways to transfer files no matter how large they may be.

• Security of Transfers: Most file transfer services will have some level of security, but some will not. If there is no type of security offered with the file transfer service you are considering then you will want to continue your search. At the very minimum you should look for file transfer services that use at least 128-bit encryption. This will prevent anyone from being able to use your files should they hack into them while they are on their way to where you are sending them.

• How Files are Transferred: How will your files be sent? Some file transfer services will be able to send your files via e-mail and others will send them to a secured server where they can be viewed. Of course, this will ultimately depend on the size of the files you are sending, but some file transfer services will only send files in one manner. Then you are stuck once again with not being able to send larger files, which really goes back to the size restrictions.

• Accessibility: You will want to be sure that the file transfer service you select will work with any operating system. This will ensure that the receiver of your file will not only get it, but be able to open it up and view it as well.

• Cost: Once you have determined that you have all your other bases covered, you will then want to look at the cost of a file transfer service. The cost should be the last thing considered, but if you have several file transfer services that offer all the same features, then you might as well save yourself a few bucks in the selection process.

Whether it is for personal or business, when you want to transfer a large file, it can be very frustrating if you cannot do so easily. Instead of taking a lot of time trying methods that may or may not work, it is far better to simply find a file transfer service review you are comfortable using and that offers great security and never again have to worry about sending any size file no matter how large it may be.
